NEW: VSM ILUMERON
The Hanover based abrasives manufacturer Vereinigte Schmirgel- und Maschinen-Fabriken (VSM) AG has developed a new long-term abrasive. VSM ILUMERON achieves a very high gloss level even starting with grit 180. Simultaneously, “wild“ scratches are avoided whilst the service life of the abrasive is enhanced.
Customers from the metalworking and metal processing industries will now benefit from a new technology: VSM ILUMERON is manufactured using a specially designed process – the abrasive grain is evenly spaced in the full faced coated material and breaks down completely and gradually over a period of time. The product capabilities are convincing: "ILUMERON stands for fine and technically consistent surfaces, from grit size 180. Tolerances are extremely narrow and gloss levels outstandingly high compared with conventional grain. There are no ‘wild‘ scratches and grinding and polishing can be done in one single working step", explains Simon Heuer, Manager Global Product Management and Application Engineering at VSM.
A shiny performance
A practical test with the ILUMERON belt RK700X grinding stainless steel provides compelling evidence of its performance. The surface gloss level attained is 100 % of the requested surface quality. In addition, there is a substantial increase in efficiency since some production steps such as polishing can be eliminated. Operators are subjected to less noise pollution on the job and there is a noticeable improvement in work ergonomics.
"ILUMERON is the obvious choice for the machining of stainless steel, superalloys and unalloyed steel surfaces at low to medium pressures", according to Simon Heuer. The new abrasive belt is now available for delivery in different grits.
